Proper Connection Of A 5th Wheel Trailer to an RBW 5th Wheel Hitch

- 5th Wheel Kingpin Assembly - These will vary but all will have the kingpin downward from a flat surface.

- When locked, the hitch handle, all of the round bar, will have a painted surface, black, continuously from the grip to the main structure.

- To connect to the trailer, the handle should be pulled open as far as possible, at this point a trip mechanism will hold the lock bar open.

- Back the hitch up to the point of being aligned with and just in front of the kingpin. There should not be an air gap between the pin plate and the hitch plate as shown in picture #4. The plates should be on the same plane or the pin plate should be up to 3/8" lower than the hitch plate. Normally, the trailer will lift slightly, up to 3/8" when hitching.

- Adjust the front 5th wheel jacks to achieve the correct pin plate height as shown in picture #5.

- Connect the trailers power cord and breakaway lanyard at this time.

- Either set your trailer brakes manually or chock the trailers tires to prevent them from rolling while backing into the pin plate. At this time, slowly back the hitch into the kingpin until the hitch lock closes. This will look like pictures "A" and "B".
